Even ‘I Love You’ Is An Understatement

I’ve been trying
To write a poem about you
All week
But I haven’t
Because I can’t.

I can’t find the words for this.
I can’t describe how your reassuring kindness
Makes me feel like I’m someone
Or how your eyes light up
Whenever you see me
Or our 2am promises
And their unfailing strength

Words simply can’t capture
The tingles of your gentle touch
And the soft curves on your face.
Your sandpaper stuble,
The perfect arch of your smile
And the cologne that no one but you can wear
Because it brings back memories
That make me miss you too much.

No English phrase can express the way I feel.
Even ‘I love you’ is an understatement.
So I can’t write a poem for you
Because the words do not exist.
