Rusty Hammers and Untainted Memories

This morning I woke up to the sound of construction and nostalgia
This morning I awoke to the sound of our song.
It’s not a typical tune,
But we’re not a typical couple
And sure there’s no real obvious melody and the notes are sharp and you wouldn’t hear it on the radio
But it’s ours
And it just so happened to be the soundtrack of our combusting passion,
The melody of good morning,
And now the reminder of our approaching reunion.
Now, I’ve never really been patient at all
And this waiting is killing me
But, you know what, it’s worth it
You’re worth it
And it sucks right now,
But how boring would it be if things went how they were supposed to?
Besides, you are the drive that forces me to keep going,
The motivation to surmount the challenges and mental anxiety that come along with overpriced college education
You are the light at the end of the tunnel
And as the monotonous rhythm of hammers and the resounding squeal of drills are becoming more pronounced
My pounding heart, etched with the letters of your name, is pumping my unrelenting love for you through my veins
And my entire body is filled with the promise of nirvana
Just from a few rusty hammers and a heap of untainted memories
