Sweet Release?

A single tear
Glides down her perfect cheekbone
And she lifts her fragile arms

Her gentle fingers unclasp the glistening locket
Like he severed his promise:

The fine golden chain
And weightless pendent
Felt heavy in her hands
Anchored to her beaten heart

A gust of wind swept through her tangled locks
And she threw it
With the force of a storm she held inside her
One hurricane lighter
She was the end of a prison sentence

With a piercing clank
His shackles fell from her wrists
And she walked away
